Writing Suspense with Awful Auntie

Writing Suspense in Narratives; Complete Lesson – Awful Auntie

This download includes a complete, English lesson on the twenty-seventh chapter of the book Awful Auntie by David Walliams. The lesson focuses on how to spot and include suspense writing in a narrative and why it is important to keep the reader engaged with your story. The lesson uses the events in the chapter as a base.

Children will read and discuss the chapter. There are two detailed PowerPoints, one for the starter and one for the main lesson, to ensure children understand suspense writing.

The class will write a text together, with the example given, and then the children will use writing frames and prompt sheets to create their own narratives. There is also a short chapter summary sheet for children to complete to reflect on the chapter read.

You will need a copy of the book Awful Auntie; everything else needed is included in this download.
