Using Dead Time - or How can I get the most out of my time?

getting-the-most-out-of-your-time

This post is to help you get the very most out of your time. Before we dive into it, a short disclaimer - You absolutely should switch off and take time for other things. This post is to help you get the most out of dead time during the day, it isn't to encourage you to work every waking moment.

So what is dead time? Dead time is wasted time, where you are stuck not doing anything progressive, such as sitting in traffic or waiting in line.

Listening to useful information while doing other things is a great way to make the most of dead time. Great things to listen to during your dead time are podcasts, YouTube videos and audio books. You can listen while:

  • Driving
  • Feeding the baby
  • Tidying and cleaning
  • Working out

Listening to information is not the only way to use dead time. If you are stuck waiting in line, waiting for your kids or your friends, you can do more than just listen. Some activities that are great for waiting around are:

Sketching ideas in a notebook

  • Read blogs
  • Read books - real books and eBooks
  • Take phone courses
  • Scroll Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration
  • Promote your resources on your phone - pin, tweet etc. For more ideas about how to market from your phone, have a quick look at this post.

As mentioned above down time is important! I don't switch off very much at all. Even my down time I like to be working. My relaxation time still includes a working element but it is relaxing. To wind down I do low key working things, I look through social media for ideas on blog post, resources and business plans. I like to read books at night to help me sleep and listen to podcasts.

Make the most of your dead time and you will feel super productive!
